The idea of the game is for the Octopus (the two girls who were "it") to work as a team holding hands to tag the rest of the players. Our Octopus started with two girls, as they tagged each other instead of getting out they joined hands and became a part of the Octopus, until everyone was tagged and a part of the Octopus team. They had to remain holding hands the entire time. At first the "it" girls were saying "we need more girls, we need more power." However, they quickly realized that the longer the Octopus got the harder to became to run fast and freely. They had to figure out how to team together to trap the others. Sometimes working as a team is easy and efficient, but other times it can be a challenge. They really had to strategize with each other in order to get the others. Just like in life there will be times where teamwork is essential for completing a task but maybe it's not as easy as just doing it alone. It's important for them to listen to each other, speak up and give their ideas to the group, and also to realize that there will be times the group may decide on other strategies to get the job done, instead of theirs.
For take home work, the girls were asked to think of another old game and make up two new rules. If they can they will teach the rules to other friends then play the game. Next meeting I cant wait to hear all about the new versions of the games and how much fun they had playing. We will choose a game or two to play as a troop next meeting. Have fun girls and be creative!!
